Join MAA for a visit to the contemporary Glenstone Museum in Potomac, where "everything is quietly spectacular, with curated views to the outdoors that present nature as visual haiku," says The Washington Post.

Glenstone is a place that seamlessly integrates art, architecture, and landscape into a serene and contemplative environment. Guided by the personal vision of its founders, Glenstone has assembled 1,300 post-World War II artworks of the highest quality that trace the greatest historical shifts in the way we experience and understand art of the 20th and 21st centuries. They include paintings, single-artist installations, video installations, sound installations, and both indoor and outdoor sculptures. The works are presented in a series of refined indoor and outdoor spaces designed to facilitate meaningful encounters. See what’s currently on view.

Please Note: Beginning on March 21, 2024 through early 2025, the Pavilions building will be temporarily closed for renovations. During this time, the Arrival Hall, Bookstore, Gallery, Café, Patio, and grounds will remain open.

Our group tickets includes timed entry to Iconoclasts: Selections from Glenstone’s Collection in the Gallery building. Our group will need to arrive at the Gallery building within 30 minutes of arrival at Glenstone in order to enjoy the show, which operates on a timed entry model.  Our MAA group will check in and gather at the Arrival Hall at 10:00 am and will proceed as a group to the Gallery building as soon as possible afterward.  After visiting the Collection, participants may continue on to their self-guided tour at their own pace. Important note:  We need to be at the Gallery by 10:30 am for entry to the Iconoclasts exhibit, so after we depart for the Gallery we cannot guarantee entry to the Iconoclasts exhibit for any participants arriving late.  (However, participants are still welcome to enjoy the remainder of the Glenstone grounds at your own pace even if you do not join us for the Iconoclasts exhibit!)

Following our self-guided visit, members are invited to gather at the Museum cafe for a beverage and snack.

Cost: $5 for members.  Members may bring 1 additional guest for an additional $5.

Cancellation policy:  Cancellations with refunds permitted through May 20; after that date no cancellation refunds will be granted.

What to expect: Glenstone Museum encompasses two buildings, several outdoor sculptures and nearly 300 acres of landscape. To fully experience Glenstone, visitors should be prepared to spend considerable time on foot, and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The parking lot is a seven-minute walk to the pavilions. A few additional things to keep in mind:

  •  Photography is not permitted indoors; outdoor photography is allowed for personal use only.
  • Sketching is permitted with pencils only.
  • The entire property is smoke-free; the use of tobacco products and e-cigarettes/vaping is not permitted.

When to meet: Our tour begins at 10:00 am sharp. We recommend parking your car no later than 9:45 am to give yourself time to walk from the parking area to the main entrance (5-7 minutes).

Getting there: Glenstone is at 12100 Glen Road in Potomac, Maryland. Parking is limited, and members are strongly encouraged to carpool or take a bus. The Montgomery County Ride On bus makes several daily stops at Glenstone on its 301 route.

Accessibility: Accessible parking is available directly in front of the Arrival Hall in the Sycamore parking grove. There is limited seating in the museum. Wheelchairs and gallery chairs are available upon request on a first come, first served basis.
