Join MAA for a day trip to see the largest US exhibition in a decade devoted to the revolutionary Mexican artist, being held at the Brooklyn Museum. We have obtained 10 tickets to the sought-after exhibit that is selling out more than a month in advance. The exhibition explores Frida Kahlo’s creative vision and self-crafted identity through a presentation of her clothing and other personal items, paintings and drawings, photographs, film and documentation and objects from the museum’s collection.

We’ll take the bus together to New York in the morning, have a Frida-inspired lunch, see the exhibition and have time to explore the rest of the museum or embark on NY activities on your own for a few hours before returning to Bethesda at night.

The bus is expected to arrive around 11:30 pm at 7400 Waverly St. in Bethesda.

What to Expect

This will be a long day, but well worth it! Participants on this field trip should plan on a long day and dress casually, comfortably and in layers to prepare for any type of weather. You should be comfortable sitting on a bus for 4-5 hours each way (up to 9 hours roundtrip); the bus has a bathroom on it, and the drive may stop at rest stops. A light snack will be provided on the trip to New York, but you should bring other food and beverages, if desired.

In New York, we will use ride share services, or you may hire your own taxi or take the subway at your own expense. For the exhibit, you should plan to walk for one hour; if you plan to explore the museum or other places in New York on your own, you would be on your feet longer. You are free to rest at any time. It’s recommended to let our group leader, Roxana, know via text message (240-370-7724) if you need a rest so that she can ensure you catch up with the rest of the group.

All aspects of the trip are wheelchair accessible; we do need to inform the bus company in advance if a passenger will be in a wheelchair, so please contact Roxana.

In the event of unexpected events or travel delays beyond our control (such as missing a bus, arriving late, a bus cancellation that would cause us to take a different bus home or need to stay overnight), decisions will be make as a group. The MAA leader will have backup plans, but all extra expenses will be the responsibility of each individual on the tour.

Waiver of Liability

Each participant must sign an MAA waiver of liability before boarding the bus. Please bring a signed copy with you.
